A Window to Joy: Crafting Nature's Beauty with My Little One

Some moments in life have a gentle magic—quiet, simple, yet so profoundly heartwarming. This post is about one such moment—a little craft we created on a gray, gloomy day that ended up bringing so much light into our hearts.

It was one of those rainy mornings where everything outside looked a bit dull, but inside our home, creativity was blooming. My daughter and I decided to do a nature-inspired craft together, using what we had around—some cardboard, transparent contact sheet (or clear cello tape), and the beautiful Mountain Laurel flowers blooming just outside our window.

We framed the delicate pink flowers and fresh green leaves inside our cardboard window. Holding it up against real windows and in the open air felt like framing a piece of nature’s poetry. My daughter’s joy when she saw how the sunlight streamed through the petals was pure magic. Her little hands holding up the frame, her giggles, her excited, wide eyes—it all made my heart melt. I loved capturing the final piece through my camera—those clicks felt more like saving pieces of joy than just taking pictures.

How We Did It:

  • We cut out cardboard strips and made a square frame out of it.
  • Then, we used a cello tape laid sticky-side up inside the frame.
  • We gently pressed fresh Mountain Laurel flowers and leaves between the sticky sides, creating a beautiful see-through nature collage.
  • That’s it! A floral frame that looks stunning when held against sunlight or placed on a windowsill.

In the end, this simple little window frame full of flowers became a beautiful window into happiness and creativity. If you're looking for something calming, colorful, and bonding to do with your child—or even just for yourself—I wholeheartedly recommend giving this a try.

Let nature and creativity bloom together, one petal at a time. Try this simple yet colourful activity with flowers and leaves of your choice to make a magnificent one and please share the same with me to spread the happiness!

DIY Kids Activity - Scavenger Hunt - Shapes

Kids find the term "Scavenger Hunt" very catchy!!! 😁😁On hearing the term they got so excited and kept nagging me what's the activity. To start with I did a simple one, Shapes Scavenger Hunt. Following this we did one more, the Measurement Scavenger hunt. I prepared two lists for my two boys. And I helped them with the writing work. They both raced to find the objects!!πŸ˜€ And when they found the same object for a particular shape, I insisted them to find a different one. It was very fun and interesting.

🎲 Alphabet Dice Word Game – A Fun & Brain-Twisting Literacy Activity for Kids!

Want to make alphabet play more exciting? Here’s a mind-twisting activity that turned out to be a huge hit at our home this week — the Alphabet Dice Word Game!

It’s a perfect mix of fun and learning, helping kids strengthen their vocabulary, spelling, and quick-thinking skills while playing.

And the best part? You don’t even need alphabet dice to play!

 What You’ll Need

  • Alphabet Dice – or any substitutes like:

    • Magnetic letters

    • Foam or wooden alphabets

    • Paper chits with letters written on them (for a sweepstakes-style draw)

  • Paper and pencil – for noting words and keeping score

  • A partner or two – because competition makes it even more fun!

(If you’re using letter chits instead of dice, decide beforehand how many alphabets to draw per turn — for example, 8 or 10 letters.)

 How to Play

  1. Roll the dice (or pick your letters).

  2. Note down the alphabets showing on the top face.

  3. Form as many words as you can using only those letters.

  4. Write your words down on your sheet — and see who scores the most!

We used nine alphabet dice, and things got pretty intense fast!
Both LO and I had our sheets labeled with our names and were ready to battle. πŸ˜„

 Real Mind-Twisting Fun!

At first, it seemed simple — but soon we realized how tricky it can get.

When we rolled A, A, A, B, B, Q, Y, L, we could hardly form any sensible words! It really made us think hard about which letter combinations work best.

LO helped me to write the words as I found them during my turn😍.

By the end of the game, LO had discovered an important little secret —

“We always need at least one vowel to form proper words!” πŸ˜„

This realization made the game not only fun but also educational.

Spinning Snake - Paper Collage Activity for Kids

For the next activity, I casually asked LO "what collage next?", while looking at the zebra collage he made previously, and he replied, 'Snake collage'!!😨I didn't expect this answer (!), and I thought, OK lets have a try. So I planned like, lets draw a snake and let LO glue some roughly cut pieces on it. But before starting, I just browsed and got to know about this awesome idea of spinning snake! This is so interesting to make and finally you can hang it to see the beautiful spiral spinning snake.😊

Supplies:
  • Construction Sheets - colors of your choice
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Stick and a thread
  • Googly eyes (Optional)
How do we make it:
For a change this time we used a dark colored drawing sheet instead of white. Trace the outline of the snake roughly as seen in the picture. You can also take a print of this snake by clicking here.

I drew small segments along the entire length of the snake. Made square pieces of different colors and LO glued them to make a beautiful snake collage.

Once the collage is done use scissors to cut along the spiral line from the outside edge to the center. Stick the googly eyes to complete the snake's head.

Lift the snake from the center to watch the beautiful spiral shape.

Poke a small hole into the center of the head. Pull a piece of thread through the hole from the top, and tie a big knot in it so the thread will not pull through (or attach a small weight to its end, like a bolt or screw). On the other end of the snake attach a stick, so that kids can make the snake dance by holding the stick.

Or just hang up the snake and watch it twirl around.

Truly, I didn't expect the outcome to be this much fun and interesting when we decided to do this. Thanks to LO for the idea!😜
