Last week, my kids came home from the library with something that instantly made me smile😍.

This Valentine's Day activity, was called “Decorating a Box of Wood Affirmation Cookies (engraved with the Glowforge in our Makerspace!)” — and honestly, the name itself sounded exciting. But seeing the finished piece? Even better.

My son (LO😉) and daughter (LA👸) attended the session on their own. I didn’t go with them. No supervising. No reminding. Just them, a Makerspace, and creativity. And that made this project even more special.

The library had already prepared laser-cut wooden pieces using a Glowforge machine — affirmation cookies shaped like hearts and flowers, each engraved with positive messages like I am powerful, I am kind, I believe in myself, and I am loved. They also had a beautifully cut wooden tray base.

The kids’ job was simple — color, decorate, and assemble. They used markers to bring each wooden cookie to life. Some were shaded carefully. Some were bold and bright. Then came the fun part — sticking sparkly gems, tiny embellishments, and finishing touches. Once decorated, they arranged the affirmation cookies onto the wooden tray and tied a ribbon to turn it into a wall hanging keepsake.

And the result? Colorful. Confident. Personal. Joyful💟.

What I love about Glowforge Makerspace activities for kids is how they blend technology with hands-on creativity. The machine does the precision cutting and engraving, but the personality? That comes entirely from the child. It removes the technical difficulty and keeps the joy intact.

This project also made me realize how many Glowforge-made creations we’ve collected over time — bookmarks, name tags, decor pieces, custom shapes. I’m now planning to gather all those photos and create a single collage blog post showcasing Glowforge crafts from our library Makerspace. Because truly, the possibilities are endless.

There’s something beautiful about children creating independently in a shared community space. No pressure. No perfection. Just color, imagination, and quiet confidence growing with every brush stroke.

Easy Christmas Winter Fairy House Craft for Kids Using Toilet Paper Rolls

Winter weekends slow us down — and sometimes, they gift us the most precious memories.

What started as my craft idea quietly transformed into something far more magical when my little angel, LA, took the lead. This winter fairy village wasn’t planned on paper — it was built with imagination, giggles, and a whole lot of love 💚

Using mostly toilet paper rolls, we created a tiny winter village with four colorful houses — one each for dad, mom, brother, and of course, her. Every detail, every color choice, and every “Can we add one more?” came straight from her heart.

❄️ A Craft That Changed Direction — And Became Better

I began this project with a different vision in mind. But as often happens with children, LA gently took over — suggesting more houses, brighter colors, and tiny trees. And honestly? Letting go made it magical.

We worked on this craft during a long winter weekend, but life had its own plans. Flu season hit our home one after another, and it took a while before I could finally sit down and share this story. Looking back now, it feels even more special — a reminder to slow down and cherish the moments when we can.

🧻 Materials Needed (Simple & Mostly Recycled)

• Toilet paper rolls – 6
• Construction paper (any colors you love)
• Pine cones (we found ours in the backyard 🌲)
• Glue gun (adult use)
• Glue stick
• Circular cardboard (for the base)

That’s it — minimal, affordable, and eco-friendly.

✂️ How We Made Our Winter Fairy Houses

🏠 Step 1: Prepare the Houses

Cover each toilet paper roll with your chosen construction paper. The color combinations alone make the village cheerful and lively.

🔺 Step 2: Make the Roofs

Cut a sector from paper, roll it into a cone, and place it on top of each roll to form cute fairy-style roofs.

🚪 Step 3: Add Windows & Doors

We cut simple windows and doors — nothing perfect, just playful. That’s the charm.

🎄 Step 4: Create Christmas Trees

Flatten a toilet paper roll, draw a Christmas tree shape, cut it out, and paint or color it. Simple, quick, and very satisfying.

🧩 Step 5: Assemble the Village

Using a glue gun (adult help), glue all finished pieces onto the circular cardboard base. Arrange freely — there are no rules here.

❄️ Optional Snow Effect

I originally planned to add cotton balls for snow, but time slipped away — and we decided it was perfect just as it was.

🌰 Pine Cones, Beads & Little Hands at Work

LA really wanted to decorate the pine cones.
So we:

• Glued colorful beads onto one pine cone
• Painted the other with her favorite colors

She helped with coloring, sticking, and deciding where everything should go. Watching her completely immersed was a joy I’ll always treasure.

The finished winter fairy village now sits proudly on our display shelf among other crafts. And every time I look at it, I don’t just see paper and glue — I see conversations, planning, laughter, and shared imagination.

A Window to Joy: Crafting Nature's Beauty with My Little One

Some moments in life have a gentle magic—quiet, simple, yet so profoundly heartwarming. This post is about one such moment—a little craft we created on a gray, gloomy day that ended up bringing so much light into our hearts.

It was one of those rainy mornings where everything outside looked a bit dull, but inside our home, creativity was blooming. My daughter and I decided to do a nature-inspired craft together, using what we had around—some cardboard, transparent contact sheet (or clear cello tape), and the beautiful Mountain Laurel flowers blooming just outside our window.

We framed the delicate pink flowers and fresh green leaves inside our cardboard window. Holding it up against real windows and in the open air felt like framing a piece of nature’s poetry. My daughter’s joy when she saw how the sunlight streamed through the petals was pure magic. Her little hands holding up the frame, her giggles, her excited, wide eyes—it all made my heart melt. I loved capturing the final piece through my camera—those clicks felt more like saving pieces of joy than just taking pictures.

How We Did It:

• We cut out cardboard strips and made a square frame out of it.
• Then, we used a cello tape laid sticky-side up inside the frame.
• We gently pressed fresh Mountain Laurel flowers and leaves between the sticky sides, creating a beautiful see-through nature collage.
• That’s it! A floral frame that looks stunning when held against sunlight or placed on a windowsill.
